Board Of Director Biographies
Becky McDaniel,Chairperson
Director McDaniel has been a resident of Rio Linda since 1986. She began her career in recreation at age 15 with the City of Vacaville working in the youth sports programming department. After graduating with a BS degree in Physical Education from CSU Sacramento, she returned to Vacaville. Wanting to care for her aging grandparents, Becky moved to Rio Linda and worked for the Rio Linda Elverta Recreation and Park District from 1988 to 2001 as a Recreation Supervisor. She still works in the recreation field and is an active coach for her daughter's local AYSO team. When approached and asked to run for the park board, she viewed it as a golden opportunity to give something back to the community that supported her when she was an employee of the park district.
Becky's experience and knowledge of the field of recreation enables her ot make sound decisions about the Park District and her time on the board has been very rewarding. The current Board of Directors is working very hard to ensure that the recreation programs offered are of good quality and the parks our residents visit are clean, beautiful, and safe. Each of us believes that collectively, we can make a positive difference in the lives of our residents.
Finally, she would like to thank the current Administrator and staff for working so hard with the Board of Directors in establishing a sound Strategic Plan for the future of our community. It has truly been a team effort from the beginning adn our residents will be able to enjoy the benefits of recreation for many years to come because of the dedication of the individuals involved in the process.
Please don't hesitate to join us at a meeting as the current elected Board of Directors is always interested as to how we can make your park and recreation experience a positive one in Rio Linda Elverta.
Loren Monroe Jr., Vice Chairperson
Loren Monroe, Jr. was born in Berkley, CA in 1952. He moved to Rio Linda, CA in 1953 where his parents started a small garbage collection business. The business grew into the North Area Refuse Company (NARCO). During that time, Loren attended Vineland Elementary, Rio Linda Jr. High and Rio Linda High Schools. In 1968, the County of Sacramento took over residential garbage collection and the Monroes were suddenly out of business. The family decided on an adventurous move to Newport, Arkansas where Loren completed his Junior and Senior years of High school. Following Loren's graduation from High School, the family moved back to Rio Linda. However, Loren continued his education in Arkansas graduating from the University of Arkansas in 1975 with a BS in Mechanical Engineering.
Loren's first job started in 1976 in New Orleans, LA Freeport Sulphur Company as a Mechanical Engineer. After only a year there, Loren's parents convinced him to move back to the Sacramento area and work in the family's restaurant repair business. After two years with his dad, Loren decided to go back to engineering doing heating and air conditioning design and conservation studies. At the same time, in 1980, Loren started Fat Fonzie's Deli and Bar. In 1981, Loren quit his engineering job and became full time owner and manager of Fat Fonzie's Deli. In 1983, Loren sold his deli and started Monroe Builders, General Contracting and Remodling. Loren liked restauranting so much, he decided to buy another one in Sacramento named Spanky's Grill. Loren worked full time as a contractor builder and managed Spanky's until he sold it in 1987. Loren continues to own and operate Monroe Builder to this date.
Loren sold his home of 24 years in the Town and Country Village area and moved back to his childhood home in Rio Linda in 2000 to assist his aging parents.
Loren was appointed to the Rio Linda Elverta Recreation and Park District Board of Directors in November 2000 and won election bids for the Board in 2002 and 2006.
Loren is surrently single with no children and his parents passed away in 2003-2004.
Lisa Morris, Secretary
Director Morris moved to Rio Linda in 1990. Director Morris and her husband Hal have five children and four grandchildren. In addition to serving on the Recreation and Park Board, she is also a Director on the RLE Chamber of Commerce(former President),Twin Rivers Unified School District Advisory Committee, (DAC), Orchard Elementary School Oversite Committee. Besides being very active in the Community, she is dedicated to taking care of her family members that need medical assistance.
She has previously served on Rio Linda Union School District Citizen's Bond Oversignt Committee, Coach and team mom for Little League.
She ran for the Recreation and Park Board because she has several children and grandchildren and would like to see more activities for young kids, teens, adults, and seniors in the community. She believes that the RLERPD has made a lot of progress by acquiring Hayer Memorial Race Track- home of the Capitol Quarter Midget Club, obtaining a donated 1927 Fire Truck and having a MOU with Sac Metro Fire to turn old Fire house 111 into a museum for our community and completing the snack bar/ restroom at Babe Best Park.
She is also proud that staff has done a wonderful job making the parks look green and beautiful. We have a sustainability plan put into place and this eventually would benefit the district so our District will look nicer and we would use less water in the future. She also compliments our office staff for doing such a superb job. She also enjoys working with other board members to try to make improvements in our Park System.
